Robin's Story

“I can’t remember a time when I didn’t struggle with my weight,” said Robin

The West Valley Medical Center bariatric program gave Robin hope and a map for a journey to better health.

Robin has struggled with her weight since she was a teenager.

“Once I reached the age of 50 and into my 60’s I hovered at 250 pounds which put me in a morbidly obese BMI category. More than this, I suffered with type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea. My health was starting to fail me due to my diet and weight.”

That’s when Robin decided to take action. She says she felt safe with the team at West Valley and felt like she was the only one being cared for at the time.

“I felt I was a priority from the minute I was called for pre-op, to when I arrived the day of surgery, through recovery and when I was called at home. Even knowing the surgery I was having, they all assured me that Dr. David Brown was an excellent doctor and that I was going to be so happy about having it done.”

Today, Robin is feeling great. She’s down to 166 pounds, she’s off her diabetes medication and her C-PAP. She’s grateful for her new lease on life and she’s incredibly thankful to have felt so safe throughout the process.

“Choosing West Valley was easy. I’ve had two other surgeries here. My husband has had a surgery here and so has my grandson. We wouldn’t go anywhere else if the surgery was offered here. We feel safe and the staff act like they’re here just for us!”

Robin says this is the best decision she’s ever made for her health and she will continue to tell others, if they need care, go to West Valley.

“I say Take Me to West Valley because I know I will be safe here and treated with kindness and respect. I hear others tell me that my experience isn’t unique; they feel the same way. I have trust in West Valley which is so comforting when it comes to my health or the health of my family and friends.”
