Bariatric Surgical Weight-Loss Procedures

Laparoscopic Banding

The "Lap-Band®" is placed around the top part of the stomach and tightened so that its capacity is significantly reduced. This procedure can be reversed, and the band is adjustable to improve weight loss and minimize side effects.

West Valley Medical Center offers this surgery through its Weight Management Center.

Duodenal Switch

This surgery makes the stomach smaller to reduce food intake and calories. The top part of the small intestine is rerouted to connect to the lowest part, bypassing a large section of intestine in the middle.

Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)

This procedure creates a smaller stomach and allows food to bypass part of the small intestine. It takes less food to make a person feel full and satisfied, which reduces calorie absorption.
