Cardiac Catheterization Lab

The mission of West Valley Medical Center's Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is to provide safe, high-quality care with a personal touch. We strive to make the experience for our patients as positive and comfortable as possible, recognizing each person's individual value.

The Cath Lab performs procedures of the heart, arteries and other areas with the use of X-ray. One procedure is an angiogram, also known as a cardiac catheterization. Angiograms are X-ray pictures taken of the coronary arteries while contrast dye is injected. Angiograms give your cardiologist information on your blood vessels, heart valves and heart muscle. Your doctor also can perform the placement of pacemakers and exchange the battery when it runs low.

We work with experts from Gem State Radiology to performing multiple procedures. Some examples are permcath (tunneled catheters for dialysis patients); peripherally inserted central line catheters, also called "PICC" lines (for long-term antibiotic or chemo therapy); inferior vena cava filters (to prevent blood clots from entering the heart or brain, causing stroke or heart attack); and ports or portacaths (implanted devices under the skin for long-term antibiotics or chemotherapy).

Our licensed personnel receive specialized training in both cardiac and radiology care. All staff are certified in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support). The combined experience of the West Valley Cardiac Cath Lab staff is more than 90 years.

We provide care to both inpatients and outpatients from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information or questions, please call 455-3906.
